Go Green Blog Tour Review: Lunchbots

Goodies for Mom is again participating in the Mommy Go Green Blog Tour as we bring you reviews and news of new eco-friendly products and services. This week we are featuring Lunchbots.

Lunchbots are safe, reusable, and fun containers kids will love. These are great for parents who are trying to provide a healthy alternative to plastic containers while also reducing disposable trash from lunches in landfills. Best part it's so much cheaper to pack a healthy snack yourself than buy one of those disposable lunches that are full of salt. [I'll be the first to admit that I've given these to my kids out of convenience but am not happy about admitting to it. :( ]

LunchBots come in a single version which is great for sandwiches and a double version which my very fussy eater son loves for his cheese and crackers.

These are very sturdy containers made of the highest quality stainless steel. Stainless steel has very resistant to stain and rust. Stainless steel is easy to clean, durable, and sanitary.They recommend hand washing with a mild detergent, but since hand washing just does not happen at our house, I tried them in the dishwasher and they seemed fine. My guess is they'll just wear out faster, but even though I try to be eco-friendly I have my limits. For less than $15 each, I'll just replace it if it gets worn quicker in the dishwasher. Plus, I read somewhere using the dishwasher actually uses less water so can I balance it out in my enviro-footprint?

The lid is designed to fit tight to keep the food inside. Best used for solid food, LunchBots are not water tight and can leak.

This is definitely one of our favorite new products. With February being Children’s Dental Health Month, my kindergartener has been talking about brushing his teeth and the importance of good oral hygiene. The arrival of the Crayola Timer Light Toothbrush was perfect timing. We had been trying counting to brush longer before its arrival but the colored flashing lights made brushing longer fun. It stays lite for 60 seconds.

Of course, we had to go out and get his little brother one too as soon as possible. I found myself telling the local grocery store order person about this wonderful new product she just had to order and she assured me she would look into it. In the meantime, we found one at a local department store but I'm sure we'll be getting more.

They are very reasonable priced, and available in four fun colors - red, blue, green, and yellow. Only problem we had was the boys fighting over, which color was going to be theirs. We are now the proud owners of a red and green one but they said next time they'll try the yellow and blue. LOL!

The only negative thing I found was the very narrow, tapered head. It's designed for small mouths but it does make it a little hard to put the toothpaste on without tipping over but good brushing habits are worth the minor inconvenience of holding it while putting on the paste.

I love the suction cup on the bottom since it keeps the toothbrush head off the sink which is so much more hygenic, and gives more space on the counter. Who doesn't need that?

Product Review: CozyCare Capes

Who doesn't end up getting a bath when you bathe your little ones? Whether it's from splashing or cuddling them when they are wet. Some days I think I get wetter than they do. The answer to this age old problem: CozyCare Capes.

We tried one out. The boys were very intrigued by the new towel and the fact that mommy was "wearing" it. The generous size covered even my plus size figure ;). Working Mothers Are Some Red Hot Mamas

Just in time for Valentine's Day, the February/March issue of Working Mother Magazine reveals some surprising results in their latest study. Even with their super busy schedules, the survey found that working moms are way more into sex than one would think. In fact, it revealed that 3/4 of the respondents wish they had more sex.

In her article entitled "Hot Mama," Lynn Harris reports that:

More than half of respondents reported having sex at least once a week, almost a third have sex two or more times a week.

63 percent say they want more sex on a regular basis.

Harris gives tips, including what readers should do if they are neglecting the romantic part of their lives, ways have better sex, and what readers can do if they are not in the mood.

“Working mothers are neither the frazzled nor frumpy stress cases that permeate media stereotypes,” said Working Mother Editor-in-Chief Suzanne Riss. “Instead, they are interested, active and looking for ways to improve their sex lives. Middle School Students From Across US Go Green

More than 30,000 students from middle schools across the country have participated in the 17th Annual National Engineers Week Future City™ Competition. This year’s theme is "water. " Students are asked to design systems to conserve and reuse one of the earth's most precious resources.

In January, each of the 39 regions held qualifying competitions to select the team that will represent it in the Future City Competition National Finals to be held in Washington DC on February 17 & 18 during National Engineers Week.

Sponsored by the nation’s professional engineering community, Future City is one of the nation’s largest engineering education programs. Their goal is to raise interest in science, technology, engineering and math among young people.

For this year's competition, students conducted research for an essay with this year’s theme being “Creating a Self-Sufficient System Within the Home That Conserves, Recycles and Reuses Existing Water Sources.” It centers on ways to improve water use by creating a home system that minimizes the use of municipal or externally supplied water for its daily requirements.

The first-place national team will win a trip to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, sponsored by Bentley Systems, Incorporated. The second place team receives a $5,000 scholarship for its school’s technology program. The third place receives a $2,000 scholarship for that school’s technology program. Bentley will also provide a 10-seat academic suite of engineering software for each school of the top three teams.

Review: LipStamp for Perfect Lips

To help beat the winter beauty blues, we tried the Lip Stamp from Alcone Company in our series of beauty products for moms. Recently seen on the Today Show, this tool was created for applying lipstick in the perfect shape quickly.

The kit includes the Lipstamp tool, and 10 different lip shapes. Stick the self-adhesive sponge in the lip shape you desire on the applicator tool, cover the sponge with your favorite lipstick (like my new favorite from Peacekeeper), then just press it on your lips to get perfectly shaped lips in minutes. The case of the tool even has a mirror so you have everything you need for great lips, except the color.

If you have small lips, this probably will not work great for you unless you do not mind going way outside your lip original line. I have medium size lips and I used the smaller one. On first try, it went way outside the lip line if I keep them closed like the directions say. The next time time I tried, I kept my lips slightly open by lining up my top lip then opened my mouth slightly to line up the bottom of my lower lip. That was the trick I needed, and I had perfectly shaped lips in minutes.
