“In this economy you have to stand out both in your work and your appearance. As a new mom I found myself wearing the same black dress all too often in order to dress conservatively and hide the baby weight. I needed to freshen up my wardrobe but I wanted to be environmentally and socially responsible just as I was teaching my son to be. I chose to purchase a few key accessories rather than spending the money on new clothes.” said Christine Altavilla, founder of HipGreenDeals.com...I created HipGreenDeals.com to make eco-friendly shopping easy, fun and affordable for women like myself.”
These items are beautiful, good for the environment, and let's face it who does not love a great deal!!!! You will look great, save money and live a little greener.

The Best of Mommy Bloggers Carnival
I am very excited to be hosting this week's "The Best of the Mommy Bloggers Carnival." These are some of the best mommy bloggers around sharing their favorite posts from the last month.
The Best of The Mommy Bloggers carnival started on A Modern Mother. Head over there if you would like to learn more about the carnival or host it.
Let's start the fun! Check out these wonderful mommy bloggers and some of their best posts:
- Scary Mommy takes an all too accurate look at what happens when mommy goes on vacation in Invasion of the Body Snatchers and what happens when mommy tries to get the Picture Perfect Photo. I so can relate because the boys are 10X better for daddy and to get a perfect photo is a huge challenge for all parents.
- Catch some Mama Drama over on the Baby Making Machine. What is wrong with some moms???
- Check out 3 Boys and a Dogs Fave Fridays highlighting Kathie Ireland's bath goodies.
- It's Christmas in July at Son Time Now with her Bumblebee Helmet Review.
- Moving On From The Drama talks about Losing Someone Special
- UK's A Modern Mom talks about socialized medicine and why it may not be so bad in Hey America, socialized medicine is not that bad. Really.
- Being a Mummy highlights You know its going to be a challenging day when... Let's face it we have all been there. Those days you just want to turn around and go back to bed.
- Calif Lorna helped make a hug memory this month for her 10 year old. Read about it at Coldplay and my 10 year old son
- This is every mom's fear with thankfully a very happy ending: Three years old, blue striped t-shirt, wispy hair, eczema all over his mouth. Hmm, maybe those baby leashes are not all bad. ;-)

Product Review/Free Sample: Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters
We received a free sample of several of Nature Valley's newest product, Granola Nut Clusters. Good thing they sent several bags because I had to beat off my husband to just get one of the bags to test because he opened one before I had a chance and was scarfing them down at record speed.
These really are yummy and are a good high energy snack. They are low in sugar and high in fiber. Just a few really fill you up quickly (of course unless you are my husband).
They come in four nut varieties: Roasted Cashew (my favorite and the only one I was able to wrestle more than one piece of away), Nut Lovers, Roast Almond, and Honey Roasted Peanut (hubby's fav).
Sign up for Nature Valley's Eat Better America newsletter and receive a free Trail Mix Bar and sample of their new Granola Nut Clusters.

ShopRite Partners in Caring Helps Feed the Hungry
For more than 30 year ShopRite has been helping feed the hungry in the neighborhoods their stores service.
ShopRite began helping to fight the problem of hunger through its support of the Feeding America network (formerly America’s Second Harvest) and through participation in the Checkout Hunger program. Yet, it wanted to do more, so in 1999, ShopRite conceived and began its ShopRite Partners In Caring program.
The ShopRite Partners In Caring program is a year-round, community based hunger fighting initiative. Working with more than 50 manufacturers, the program is committed to helping to feed and meet the nutritional needs of families and the elderly who may otherwise not have food. The ShopRite Partners In Caring program supports 23 regional food banks and more than 1,400 charitable agencies with food or meal components. With a $2 million annual donation, more than $20 million has been donated since 1999 in the fight against hunger.
Companies that have joined ShopRite in the fight against hunger are marked in stores with the ShopRite Partners In Caring shelf label. By choosing these products, ShopRite customers support manufacturers who contribute to the program. Each of the 217 ShopRite stores in the six states that ShopRite serves selects qualified local organizations to benefit from the program. These local food charities use their designated funds to acquire supplies at a food bank.
Facts About Hunger in America
- More than 36 million Americans (11 percent of U.S. households) suffer from food insecurity
- More than 12 million children are growing up hungry
- There are many complications of hunger, especially for children, including
- Weakened immune systems
- Cognitive and behavioral development problems; can cause irritability, fatigue and difficulty concentrating in younger children. Also proven to cause depression in some teenagers
- Slow or unusual development in areas such as speaking, behavior and movement - A $1 donation can purchase 10 pounds of food from a food bank
Please consider helping ShopRite fight hunger!
In addition, General Mills and ShopRite will donate one box of cereal to a food bank in ShopRite’s trading area for the first 30 people who comment on this post!!!! So please leave me a comment!!!!!

Recent Recalls from the CPSC
The CPSC released the following recall information in the last two weeks:
- Target Recalls Circo Booster Seats Due to Fall Hazard
The booster seat restraint buckle can open unexpectedly, allowing a child to fall from the chair and be injured. Target has received eight reports of the booster seat buckles opening unexpectedly, including three reports of bruises. If you have this, you should immediately stop using the booster seat and return the item to the nearest Target store to receive a full refund. - Jump ‘n Jive Doorway Jumpers Recalled by Graco Due to Choking Hazard
The recalled doorway jumpers include detachable toys that are attached to the jumper straps with strips of hook and loop fabric. The strips of fabric are not permanently attached to the toys and can become detached during use, posing a choking hazard. No injuries have been reported. You should immediately stop using the recalled product and remove and discard the detachable toys and the attaching fabric strips and call the manufacturer for a replacement set of toys. - Dorel Juvenile Group Expands Recall of Safety 1st Stair Gates Due to Fall Hazard
The hinges that hold the stair gate in place can break, posing a fall hazard to children if the gate is placed at the top of the stairs. Bumkins Back 2 School Blog Tour: Art Smock Review
We at Goodies for Mom are excited to participate in the Bumkins Back 2 School Blog Tour! Mom bloggers throughout cyberspace are talking about Bumkins back to school products! The tour includes reviews of the junior bib, aprons, art smock, and wet bags. So head over and check out some other great mom blog reviews too!!!! In addition, Bumkins will be giving away five (5), $35.00, gift certificates so read below to see how you can enter.
With Back to School right around the corner, we received the Art Smock to review in the Cat in the Hat pattern. The photo really does not do the pattern justice. It is so adorable and the boys were excited to see one of their storybook characters on it. I am all for anything that reminds children of reading.
The smock is made of Bumkins' proprietary waterproof fabric, which is stain and odor resistant. Importantly and one of my favorite features is that it is PVC, BPA, Phthalate & Vinyl Free. The fabric is extremely durable and you can tell it is made of high quality material. It has a tie closure to keep it from falling off. Just machine washable and hang it to dry.
Now here is the important part and the part I messed up when they asked us what item we wanted to review. The Art Smock measures 16" across chest, 17" from neck down, 40" cuff to cuff. Although it is designed to fit 2 - 5 year old, my 3 year old did not fit in it. He was just too broad across the chest and we should have went with an apron. (Notice this is why I have no great photos of my son in it like the other moms.) I had chosen this because I love the coverage it gives because it goes farther down the arm. Messy preschoolers need all the coverage they can get. I hope Bumkins decides to make this in bigger sizes in the future.
This is a long shot from my dad's old shirt that I used to paint in when I was little!!!! Your little ones will be even more excited to paint when to get to wear this and you'll love keeping their clothes nice and looking like new. Of course, maybe my 3 year old should wear it all day ;) I think every shirt he owns has a stain of some sort on it at the end of the day.
Win a $35 Bumkin's Gift Certificate
Plus, Bumkins will be giving away five (5), $35.00, Gift certificates as a part of the Bumkins Back 2 School Blog Tour! Bumkins will choose the five winners beginning Monday August 10th, giving away one gift certificate each day that week.
All you have to do to enter is comment on the Bumkins blog, or on ANY of the participating blogs’, Bumkins Back 2 School Blog Tour posts! [HINT: Don't forget to make sure to leave us a comment on this post for a chance to win before you visit the blog tour.]
