A class action lawsuit was filed on May 15, 2009 in federal court in Newark, New Jersey. The suit claims that Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble Co. and other companies sold personal-care products containing formaldehyde and other compounds known to cause cancer, according to Mary Garner, a spokeswoman for the law firm Keller Rohrback LLP. These products included many popular baby shampoos.
"Dozens of top-selling children's bath and personal care products are contaminated with the cancer-causing chemicals," the law firm said in the statement.
