Three States Ask Baby Bottle Makers to Halt Use of BPA

The attorneys general from Connecticut, Delaware and New Jersey have asked 11 manufacturers of baby bottles and baby formula containers to stop using bisphenol A (BPA) in their products because of reports that the chemical is potentially harmful to infants. The states cite studies that indicate BPA can attach to food in heated containers, according to the Associated Press.

The states sent letters to Avent America Inc., Disney First Years, Gerber, Handicraft Co., Playtex Products Inc. and Evenflo Co., Abbott, Mead Johnson, PBM Products, Nature's One and Wyeth. Some of the companies have already said they would produce BPA-free baby bottles.
