BPA in Baby Bottles Prompts Lawsuit Against Playtex

An Arkansas woman filed a federal lawsuit against Playtex Products. The lawsuit address the bottle maker's use of bisphenol A (BPA) in their products. The lawsuit is seeking nationwide class action status to represent what it says are thousands of people who bought plastic bottles containing BPA.. It also claims that Playtex failed to adequately disclose that its plastic bottle products are formulated using BPA.

The National Toxicology Program said rats fed or injected with low doses of BPA developed precancerous tumors, urinary tract problems, and early puberty. The risks to humans, especially children is still unkown.

“There have been enough warning signs about the dangers of this chemical that we cannot sit idly by and continue to allow vulnerable children and infants to be exposed,” stated Senator Charles E. Schumer
